Damian edited the first productions for Digital Theatre, the company set up by Robert Delamere and Tom Shaw, focussing on high quality recordings of stage performances to bring the magic of live theatre to communities that traditionally lack exposure to the arts.

Far from the Madding Crowd is the story of Bathsheba Everdene who, after inheriting her uncle’s farm, finds herself a mistress in a man’s world. This classic novel was adapted for the English Touring Theatre by Mark Healy and uses a large ensemble cast, live music, inventive choreography and energetic staging to bring the story to life. Captured by Digital Theatre live at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford, the production was directed by Kate Saxon with music by Gary Yershon.


 


KAFKA’S MONKEY

Kafka’s Monkey is based on ‘A Report to an Academy’, a story by Franz Kafka in which an ape, Red Peter, gives a lecture about his transformation from ape to human. This production was captured by Digital Theatre live at London’s Young Vic, and was adapted by Colin Teevan and directed by Walter Meierjohann. It features an extraordinary critically acclaimed performance from Kathryn Hunter, one of the original members of Complicite, as Red Peter.

The Container, by Clare Bayley, tells the story of a group of asylum seekers being smuggled across Europe inside a shipping container, seeking refuge in England. This production, revived following a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival, was captured by Digital Theatre live inside a real shipping container parked outside the Young Vic Theatre. With an audience of only 28, all locked inside the container in the dark with the actors, the production was directed by Tom Wright, and met with much critical acclaim.

In Over There, Karl, left in East Germany by his mother who escaped to the West with his twin brother Franz, crosses the border himself 25 years later. This production was captured by Digital Theatre live at the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs at London’s Royal Court. It was directed by Mark Ravenhill and Ramin Gray and brothers Franz and Karl were played by real-life twins Harry and Luke Treadaway.



PARLOUR SONG

Jez Butterworth’s Parlour Song explores the turbulent undercurrents of suburbia, following Ned, a demolition expert, his discontent wife, Joy, and their neighbour, Dale. This production was captured by Digital Theatre live at London’s Almeida Theatre. Directed by Ian Rickson, it featured critically acclaimed performances from all three of its cast members; Toby Jones as Ned, Andrew Lincoln as Dale, and Amanda Drew as Joy.

 



AS YOU LIKE IT

As You Like It, Shakespeare’s famous pastoral comedy of love and disguise, is reimagined here with darker, more sombre undertones. This production was captured by Digital Theatre live at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s temporary space, the Courtyard Theatre, in Stratford upon Avon. It was directed by the RSC’s then Artistic Director, Michael Boyd, and starred Jonjo O’Neill as Orlando and Katy Stephens as Rosalind.
